Frequently Asked Questions about Tenants Contents Insurance
1. Who is the product suitable for?
If you’re a tenant who’s renting a property, then this product is for you. If you’re renting but then you buy your own home mid-way through the tenancy, you can take your cover with you.
2. Is my bike covered under Tenants Contents Insurance?
Tenants contents insurance does cover pedal cycles, but not motorbikes. You get £500 per pedal cycle included as standard at your house with the option to insure more expensive bikes in or out of the home if you’d like. If you have more than one bike, you can claim for each, as long as each bike doesn’t exceed a £500 value per bike.
3. My circumstances have changed – do I need to do anything?
You need to notify your insurer when any relevant circumstances change, as this could impact your cover or any future claims you might need to make. Changes you’d need to let us know about would include a change of address or anything that would alter the answers and information you provided when you setup your cover. If you’re unsure, just call a member of our friendly team and they can be of assistance.
4. Will my policy cover belongings outside my home?
Your possessions will be covered within the boundaries of your home providing you’ve chosen our contents cover. If you want to cover your possessions anywhere else in Europe (extending to anywhere in the world for up to 60 days!), you can choose to have this cover for an additional premium.
5. I’m going travelling for two months – will this affect my policy?
Some restrictions will be automatically placed on your policy after the property has been left unoccupied for more than 30 days – these include malicious damage, escape of water and Theft. However, providing you have the relevant extended cover, we would cover items you’ve taken on your travels with you.
6. Will old things be replaced with new ones if I have to make a claim?
During the process of a claim we will decide whether it’s most appropriate to replace, repair or offer money for your lost or damaged goods. We will always consider what route will be best depending on the circumstances in question.
7. What if I have single items of high value?
In the home, you get a single item valuable limit of £2,500 for each item – providing the items don’t exceed £10,000 in total. Away from the home, should you have chosen this cover, the single article limit is the same, though we have a lower overall limit of £7,500.
