We’re delighted to be able to release further details of our Right to Rent checking solution – HomeLet Verify - which is now available to agents in some areas of the West Midlands (the Government's trail area for the immigration checks).
HomeLet Verify, which will help those who are letting homes to private tenants, has been developed in response to the new Government legislation, which will require landlords and letting agents to check the status of every prospective tenant to ensure they have a right to live in the UK, before letting a home to them.
The Immigration Act will require you to check passports and other identification documents and ensure the bearer of the documentation matches the prospective tenant.
You’ll also need to be sure that the tenant has the right to live in the UK and keep a copy of their documentation for a specified period of time.
We understand that this is a huge responsibility to be given and you may not necessarily be familiar with the different types of documentation that are approved under the Act. Therefore, we’ve designed this solution to help you check the validity of the documents.
Not only will a copy of the documentation be stored securely on your behalf, but you’ll be asked a series of questions that will help you to ascertain whether or not the applicant has a right to rent.
Plus, because we value our customers and want to help those letting agents in the initial trial area, HomeLet Verify is available free of charge throughout the trial period, which is expected to last until later this year. This is subject to a fair usage policy and will be monitored to ensure it’s being used appropriately along with our other services.
If you’d like to take advantage of the new HomeLet Verify service, please don’t hesitate to contact your Account Manager who'll arrange for you to be able to access it through Connect.
